May 18 was an absolutely beautiful day for our annual Arm of Hope 5k! God gave us the best weather we could have asked for!
Arm of Hope holds a 5k each year to help supplement our camp scholarship fund. Each summer a group of people from here in the US join with a group of our friends in Ghana to provide an awesome Jesus-filled camp for nearly 500 campers. These campers have a really tough life living in a slum community, so getting away from it all and enjoying a vacation at camp is an absolute highlight of the year for these kids (and for us too). By running, walking, volunteering, praying, and giving, you have become a partner in all the amazing things God is doing in the lives of kids in Ghana.
Arm of Hope child sponsorship helps to provide camp each year, so if you are a sponsor, you are already participating in camp. However, Arm of Hope supports many children who do not yet have personal sponsors. Since there are many more children at camp than there are sponsorships, fundraisers like our 5k, our Christmas cookie bake, and our cinnamon bun fundraiser supplement the sponsorship funds to make camp a reality. The cost per camper is only about $50, just a fraction of the cost of camp here in the US, but when you take it times 500, well, you do the math! It’s a pretty big number. Big numbers don’t scare us though, because we have an even bigger God. For 5 years in a row, He is has provided abundantly for this camp, and we see His fingerprints all over it. We are certain that as long as He is in it, He will provide, and year number 6 is no exception.
